At FINS Café & Surf, our priority is to provide a fun, safe, and educational surfing experience for all participants. However, surf and weather conditions can sometimes be unpredictable. To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants, we regularly assess conditions to determine whether a lesson should go ahead.
Our Head Coach (Henry Peacock) is responsible for assessing whether the conditions are suitable to proceed with the lesson. We also work with RNLI Lifeguards, when available, to ensure the highest standards of safety. If the Head Coach deems the conditions unsuitable for a safe lesson, we may need to cancel or reschedule the session.
Flat Conditions Policy
If surf conditions at [Towan Beach or Fistal Beach] are deemed too flat for an effective surf lesson, the Head Coach will assess conditions at [Towan Beach or Fistal Beach]. If conditions at both locations are deemed unsuitable for a lesson, the Refund & Cancellation Policy (due to flat or extreme conditions) outlined below will apply.
Factors considered by the Head Coach when assessing flat conditions include:
Wave size: Is the wave big enough to propel the surfboard forward?
Wavelength: Is the ride long enough to allow participants to get to their feet and practice?
Lesson suitability: Can the lesson (e.g., paddling practice or advanced techniques) proceed safely in these conditions?
Participant size and ability: Surfer size, weight, and experience levels affect how well they can surf in flat conditions.
If the conditions are unsuitable, we will offer a rescheduling option or alternative activities, depending on availability.
Extreme Weather Conditions Policy
In cases of extreme weather conditions such as strong winds, large waves, or other dangerous conditions, the Head Coach will evaluate whether it is safe and practical to proceed with the lesson.
The following factors will be considered:
Lifeguard red flag: If lifeguards have red-flagged the beach, lessons will not proceed.
Wind direction and swell size: Offshore winds or large swell can pose significant dangers.
Participants experience level: The Head Coach will assess whether the group is suited to the conditions (e.g., beginner versus advanced surfers).
Safety of the location: Visibility, water movement, and other environmental factors may influence the decision.
If the Head Coach deems the conditions unsafe, we will cancel the lesson and offer either rescheduling or an appropriate refund in line with our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
Refund & Cancellation Policy (Due to Flat or Extreme Conditions)
If a lesson is cancelled due to unsafe weather or surf conditions, the following options will apply:
Rescheduling:
You will be offered the option to reschedule your lesson at no extra charge.
Rescheduling is subject to availability and must occur within a reasonable timeframe.
Refund:
If rescheduling is not possible (e.g., due to scheduling conflicts or unavailable dates), you will receive a full refund for the lesson.
Customer Cancellations
